The exhibition continues in the new showroom of Design Boutique Italia.
GCCD is a precious mix of Canadian (Ginette Caron) and Japanese (Masami Moriyama) graphic designers renowned for concept driven design, distilling complex communication processes into unique, universal and emotionally engaging solutions applying lightness, craft and playfulness to rigorous graphics. Their works encompass a multidisciplinary vision, from brand identity, editorial, exhibition and environmental design to packaging, illustrations and products.

Freedom Manifesto
Humanity on the move | Umanità in movimento

Poster exhibition curated by
Fulvio Caldarelli, Armando Milani e Maurizio Rossi

Cagliari, Lazzaretto (Italy)
1 November – 18 November 2018

Can a poster change the world?
Visual communication and the Utopia of the possible
The Centro interdisciplinare di ricerca sul paesaggio contemporaneo has launched an appeal to artists and visual designers of international renown to gather their viewpoints on a phenomenon currently plain for all to see: the migration of men and women fleeing war, misery, overwhelming strife.

The first outcome was the collective posters exhibition held in Rome at Museo Centrale Montemartini, during fall 2017.

A year later immigration is still a sorrowful issue, either on the social and the political side: promoting awareness, stimulating a brand new perception about humanity on the move, is still the big challenge of 2018 edition of Freedom Manifesto, realized by Centro Interdisciplinare in collaboration with CAP09.

Honoured to have been selected by the Canadian Heritage Minister as an International “Canada ‎150 Ambassador” as Canada marks 150th anniversary of Confederation.

Apart from the privilege and honour of meeting with Minister Mélanie Joly, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Governor General David Johnston and his guest Italian President Hon. Mattarella in Ottawa, the most touching moment for me was my active participation in the citizenship conferral ceremony to 40 people from 13 different countries and to see how proud and grateful they were. I am happy to share all the privileges Canada offers with these newcomers who will enrich our precious Canadian mosaic.

Chiesa Santa Gianna Beretta Molla
Trezzano sul Naviglio (MI)
17 dicembre 2017

Ginette Caron is one of the 6 keynote speakers together with Alejandro Aravena, Jan Gehl, Sushir Kadidal, Dirk Simons and Maureen Thurston to talk during the opening ceremony in presence of the Canadian Minister of Heritage Mélanie Joly.

Refettorio Ambrosiano
Greco, Milano
Ottobre 2017

4Tomorrow organises and hosts debates, seminars, conferences, workshops and exhibition in schools, universities and governmental institutions.

Farm Cultural Park
Favara (AG), Italy

NOVUM magazine
July 2017

An article about Ginette Caron Communication Design is featured in this month’s
NOVUM – World of Graphic Design 07/17 magazine.

From wonder to form

Coming from a family of graphic designers, painters and architects,
Ginette Caron was introduced at an early age to »good« taste. She went on
to study graphic design at the Concordia University in Montreal, then
worked for two years in her home town until she had got together enough
money to fund a long trip to Europe. There she took at close look at some
of the best studios and ended up staying – in Italy.
»It was very exotic – me as a cool polar bear turning up in this Mediterranean
open-air museum, discovering a country full of excellence and refinement.
And above all getting the opportunity to work with grand Italian maestros.«
For over a decade at Pierluigi Cerri / Gregotti Associati she designed visual
identities for the Italian design and fashion sector. After that she worked
alongside Massimo Vignelli, later Oliviero Toscani and Luciano Benetton, the
latter giving her a completely free hand as Design Director.
Today Ginette Caron has her own studio for communication design in
Milan on Piazza Sant’Ambrogio. In this place with its beautiful church, »a
square across which once strode the likes of Petrarca, Bramante and da Vinci
«, this Canadian designer and her Japanese assistant are engaged in multidisciplinary
projects. Big names and top brands feature in her portfolio – from
A for Arper to Z for Zucchi.
»Everything is a source of inspiration. You can observe things from very
different angles and that generates quite different inputs. Life unfolds
between the words ›perception‹ and ›interpretation‹, is how Ginette sums up
her approach to work. This awareness helps her, she says, to develop personalised
communication systems. And she lists three quotes that are of great
importance to her: »Form comes from wonder« (Louis Kahn), »One must be
light like the bird and not like the feather« (Paul Valéry) and »Beauty is the
light of the truth« (Augustinus of Hippo).
The impressive external design for the Vatican Pavilion at Expo 2015 –
designed by Ginette Caron with Quattroassociati Architects – literally draws
its power from light (and shade). The words from the Bible: »Not by bread
alone« and »Give us this day our daily bread« are translated into thirteen languages,
spelled out in white metal letters, only legible on the white building
by virtue of their shadow. According to the designer this concept refers
to the manna falling from heaven which served as food for the Israelites on
their 40-year journey through the desert. Currently these words are on tour in
important places around the world, carrying their message further.
Immaculate, matt whiteness has, however, seldom been popular in Italy
in more profane spheres – or the temptation so great as in the case of »San
Carlo«: But now that these popular crisps are featured in a new purist-style
packaging by Ginette Caron, the number of calorie-sinners will most certainly
have risen. »I seek out the essence of things, both as the starting point for my
projects and as the arrival point. Essentiality, however, does not mean minimalism,
in some cases you can also translate it as exuberance,« explains the
designer. As colourful and virtuoso as in her »Su Misura« catalogue for Fedrigoni’s
bespoke papers and in »Kaleidoskop«, the painting on the walls of the
corridor of the »Gianni Rodari« junior school in Arena in Como – both works
full of vitality and extending an invitation to open oneself up to the endless
possibilities.

Chiesa della Pentecoste
Quarto Oggiaro. Milano
4 giugno 2017

grafica: Ginette Caron Communication Design
